Personally
Living in New York, New York: still the best city in the world.
Striving to live by three maxims: Imitatio Dei. Imago Dei. Memento Homo.
Fueled, as always, by good coffee and good books: see what I’m reading.
Professionally
Called to public service: In this season, that looks like leading New York City’s Asset Management program. We survey the condition of the city’s infrastructure, and report what it will take to keep it working.
On paper, it’s about numbers. We take measurements and we estimate costs. But if you look up from the page long enough, you can see the people who can be served by numbers. Inside the local library, a kid is doing homework. On the bridge across town, a family is heading home.
These people, and so many more, count on us to keep the city standing. And for me, this is the real job: steward what we’ve been entrusted with, tell the truth about its condition, and never lose the person behind the number.
This is a now page, a taste of what life looks like at the moment. Curious about any of it? Reach out!
